Pep Boys just needs to swap your pads.I just got the brake liner malfunction warning in my 2002 Benz E30, should I go 2 the dealer, pepboys, autozone?I'm not sure of any of the costs but you need to take it to the dealer. there is a reset that the dealer needs to do. i am a mechanic that just had this problem with my shop owners car. when i looked it up on All data it warned of this reset. Do Not attempt to do it yourself. we ended up taking my bosses car to the dealer.

The good news is that there's nothing special about these brakes, and any competent mechanic can change them. Use an independent and save a bunch of money.

I'm currently using Pagid pads and ATE rotors on my E320. I believe those are the stock brands, and they aren't expensive if you buy from independents. If you're buying parts yourself, don't forget to pick up new wear indicators. The other thing to remember is that the rear disks are different, depending on whether you have a sedan or wagon.I need new brake pads and/or rotors for my 2002 Benz E320,whats the best types and brands for pads and rotors?Rotors:

  • How to do brake repair for ford 1992 f150?

I'd like to find a site or get some help. i'd like to change the rotors and pads myself on my ford 1992 f150 but the manual lockouts for the fourwheel drive are in the way and I dont want to mess them up. HELP PleaseHow to do brake repair for ford 1992 f150?This is a tough question - F-150's had two hub styles, and for some dumb reason, the brakes are totally different. Here's what we need to know:

Do you have Ford manual hubs with no screws around the perimeter (oddball), or do you have aftermarket manual hubs with screws around the perimeter, that look like they'd also fit a Jeep or a Chevrolet.

Either way, you could probably find both answers in a half-decent manual.

Why is my 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 doing this?

I've got about 70k miles on it. I recently had the rotors changed and am getting the timing belt changed tomorrow due to 1 rib of the belt breaking off (which, btw, it has still allowed me to drive 600 miles in 1 week since breaking because the rest is still intact) I've noticed that upon acceleration from a stop that no matter how hard or soft I press on the gas, my E-brake light will come on for just a few seconds. It started after the rotor change (a long while after) and before the timing belt broke, but before, it would only do it sometimes. Since the timing belt incident, it does it on every from-stop acceleration, and even occasionally as I am turning a corner. Could it be because of the timing belt, or is it something different? I do my own routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid changes and other minor things, but, this car was bought used and I have added over 30k miles in 8 months. Any other suggestions on keeping my manual-tranny girl running smoothly? Why is my 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 doing this?do not need to replace the pulleys. never heard of doing that, even on a second or third Timing belt. unless there was some type of problem with them. At 70k, that is about the right time for a timing belt. The Brake light is usually both for the E-brake and for the Brakes in general. It sounds like what you may have is low fluid in the master cylinder, and on turns and acell the remaining fluid is moving to uncover the contacts. check your brake fluid level, it should be at the full mark on the side of the M/C (outside molded into the plastic if the resivour). Just change the belt, unless the Mech can show you as to why it needs new sprockets.

    1996 Honda civic cx distributor?

2 years ago i changed the distributor cap on my car (honda civic cx 1996) i wasent able to change the rotor (couldent remove the screw). Two days ago i had to change it again . When i removed the cap, i removed the first screw no problem, the second one broke off half way out (i dident use any force at all) the third one broke clean off just as i started removing it, i dident touch the rotor this time. I put the new cap on with only one screw holding it so i could get it to the garage. The mecanic was pretty busy and reluctenly took my car in. After looking at it he says he cant touch it, he says he will problably break the distributor housing if he trys to remove the broken screws or the rotor. He told me to use a couple of tie wraps to hold it in place (ya right). Fist Question is: does this sound right. Second question. How much will it cost me to change the whole distriburator.1996 Honda civic cx distributor?a mechanic will charge you by the hour to drill out screws.however long it takes.buy a new dist.1996 Honda civic cx distributor?Check Engine light on? Emissions Warranty Extension

    (Supersedes 98-081, dated March 9, 1999)

Updated information is shown by asterisks and black bars.

    BACKGROUND

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have claimed that the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system in the affected vehicles does not fully perform in the manner that they believe is required. Specifically, they believe the OBD system is not sensitive enough to detect some engine misfire conditions.

In an effort to resolve this issue, American Honda has agreed to extend the emissions warranty on all of the affected vehicles and to provide emissions-related services during the warranty period.

    WARRANTY EXTENSION INFORMATION

American Honda is extending the emissions warranty on all affected vehicles to 14 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The basic terms of this extended warranty are the same as given with the original Federal and California emissions warranties.

Federal Emissions Warranties - The time and mileage periods for the Emissions-related Design and Defects Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty are lengthened from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 14 years or 150,000 miles. All other terms, conditions, and exclusions still apply. All parts on the Emissions Parts List are now covered for 14 years or 150,000 miles, so the 5/50 notations on certain parts no longer apply.

California Emissions Warranties - The time and mileage periods for the Emissions Control Systems Defects Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty are lengthened from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 14 years or 150,000 miles. All other terms, conditions, and exclusions still apply. All parts on the Emissions Parts List are now covered for 14 years or 150,000 miles, so the 7/70 notations on certain parts no longer apply.

File a claim under this extension if:

^ The MIL comes on and the cause is traced to an emissions-related component.

^ The vehicle requires an emissions-related repair because it failed a mandated emissions test.

    ^ Any emissions-related component fails.

    * If you cannot find the labor operation number for a particular emissions-related repair in the chart in this service bulletin, contact your local District Parts and Service Manager (DPSM) or call Warranty Dealer Support at 310-783-3240.*

    REPAIR TIME REQUIREMENTS

According to the terms of the agreement, American Honda and the dealer have 45 days to resolve the customer's claim for repair under this warranty from the date the customer first brings in the vehicle. If you decide to refuse a customer's claim for repair under this warranty because you suspect accidental damage, tampering, or lack of proper maintenance, notify your DPSM immediately. This will allow American Honda to thoroughly investigate the customer's claim within the 45-day timeline.

    ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In addition to the warranty extension, the following services are provided to owner's of affected vehicles.

Between 50,000 miles and 75,000 miles - If an affected vehicle comes in for service within this mileage range, inspect the OBD system. Follow the service manual procedure to retrieve any DTCs that are set. Then, replace the affected part(s). This inspection and any parts replacement are free of charge to the owner.

Between 75,000 and 150,000 miles - At this time the dealer should:

^ Inspect the OBD system again, and replace any parts that have caused a DTC to set.

^ Replace the distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires, and spark plugs.

^ Change the oil and oil filter.

All of the above services are free of charge to the owner. You must use Honda parts and fluids for this service.

    CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

American Honda will send a letter to all owners of affected vehicles notifying them of the terms of the warranty extension. This will be done immediately.

American Honda will send letters to all owners of affected vehicles, reminding them of the 50-75,000 mile OBD check, 5 years after the release of their models. This will begin in the latter part of 1999 for the 1995 models, etc.

American Honda will send letters to all owners of affected vehicles, reminding them of the 75-150,000 mile service, 9 years after the release of their models. This will begin in 2005.

    WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

The 50,000-75,000 mile OBD inspection, the 75,000-150,000 mile OBD inspection, the 75,000-150,000 mile service, and any emissions-related repairs must be filed on separate warranty claims. Warranty claims that combine any of these services will be rejected.

    1) take your cap out mark your rotor tip direction and mark your distributor housing so you can put it back in the same spot as you take out.

    2) mark adjustment bolt location and take the bolts that distrubutor inplace out.

    3) pull distrubutor out straight forward so the gear won't move.

when you install just reverse how you take out, make sure all the mark are line up good otherwise it won't start, if somehow your car won't start may you have to reinstall distrubutor again.

    to do that:

    1) rotate you piston untill it get to top dead center, i don't know how much you know about the system work the best bit is go get you a repair manual and follow instruction that should halp you get your car running.

Thank youHow to change toyota matrix rotors?the hub nut does not connect the rotor to the hub and if you losen that nut and do not tighten it properly you will need two front wheel bearings as well the best way to get off the rotor is to smack it will a good sized hammer from the back side be carfull not to send it across the garage if you hit it a couple of times it should then slide off also it would be good to list the year and if it is 4wd or not but either way it is the same in this caseHow to change toyota matrix rotors?there is a great product called WD-40 it is a penatrating oil that is in fact if you have given the corect information soak it with WD-40 overnight if need be you might consult a CHILTON Manual these are invalibale they can be purchased at a parts store for around 20$ but if you own the car and plan to do the work youself it may be your most valuble tool.these tell every part on the make of car you get it for you may ask a mecanic to print you just the page you need mecanics have a web site that is pass word procted that they pay to belong to so they may charge you a fee for doing this but it can save you if you dont wish to buy the whole manual hope this helps

Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?

I have a Honda Accord and it just reached the 60,000 mile mark. I want to do a tune up that includes the works (i.e. changing plugs, rotor %26amp; cap, oil, fuel and air filter, also wheel alignment and inspection, etc..) does anyone know a good auto mechanic that can do this in the North Dallas area? Also, how much you think it would cost? Thanks.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?I lived in the Dallas area for many years. For the most part the only mechanics were $78.00 per hour up. The best alignment shop was in Duncanville. I think it was Precision Alignment or Superior Alignment something like that. It was off Camp Wisdom and Main. The best general mechanics shop was a place recommended to me by American Armature. It may have been McGuire. It's near Haskell and I-30. They aren't cheap but as honest as the day is long and they know what they are doing. I ALMOST FORGOT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS only used them a few times but when they give you an estimate you can count on it coming in at or under the estimate. They were to put in a wheel bearing and because of rust an stuff wound up doing a whole lot more and it didn't cost me a dime over the initial estimate. It is the one on Eldorado in Mckinney that I went to but I was referred by a friend who used a different member of the company I would take my daughters car there if it needed work. Your Honda dealer SHOULD be a reliable source but you never know at least if they find anything wrong a warranted item they should fix it. Hope this helps.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?do it yourself. its easy.

    prop up car

    unplug oil plug

    let drain

unscrew oil filter, either buy a tool, or jab a screwdriver through it

dab oil on filter ring with finger

    screw in filter somewat tightly.

    put in oil pan plug

put a gallon of Valvoline oil. 10 40 oil. thinkcer oil is better. lubricates better. the hundreds of degries of engine heat will liquify it. use nothing but Valvoline nothing.

unplug one, only one plug and wire.

match up the length, screw in the plug by hand, be carfull dont tighten with wrench till its all the way in.

    air filter is easy.

I need to know how to change the rotor on a 1996 Dodge Dakota. And yes to everyone who is going to answer %26quot;Go buy the book%26quot; yes I tried and I cant find it anywhere. Its a Dodge Dakota, 5 speed stick, 4wd. I just need to know how to take off the rotor.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?same way you would take all rotors off if it's a 4x4. if it's auto hubs pull the hub off there is a nut on the end of your front shaft it may require a special tool if not it will require a very large socket.

key thing, do it safe, jack stands.. note the place ment of all parts. usually there is a key on the spindle shaft. that need's pryed out if you have one it's best to be pulled out with a strong little magnet , after the nut there is a nylon disc, a greased set of berrings, then you can pull the rotor off. on the back side of the rotor there is a hub seal aka oil seal, and another set of berrings

you should not need to replact the race for the berrings but you should inspect the berring and repack new grease or replace them depending on general condition. a qiuck soak in kerosene will clean out the old grease. the rear oil seal needs replaced every time you take this apart so do it all right while it's apart.

if you have ne questions while it's apart snap a pic and send it to me i'll be willing to help u out more.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?You don't need to remove the hub to change the brake rotors. In fact, don't even touch the hub.

Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, and the brake rotor should come off. You may have to whack it with a good sized hammer to knock it loose.

Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?Some have a slip off rotor that will come off once the wheel and caliper are removed. Others have a 4 bolt flange that allows the bering/hub and rotor to come off as an assembly. Look behind the rotor/hub at the drive axel connection for the bolts. You may have to clear out some road grime to see them.

Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?

    Hello all,

I have a 1990 BMW 525 which i bought from a second hand car dealer and he told that he had changed the timing belt. This year I am going to do a service on my car..like changing the distributor rotor, sparkplug change, oil change etc.My dealer told that he had changed the timing belt, but how do i confirm that that he had changed.Any way to find out that....

thanks in advance,Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?The only way to tell is to look out for telltale signs of recent activity in the timing belt area (cleaner bolts and screws compared to the others in the engine...etc). Another way is to visiually inspect the belt itself for cracks, but if you could get to that stage, you might as well just replace the belt anyway since there's already a lot of labor involved.

Haynes repair manuals recommend 40,000 miles while Bentley repair manuals recommend 60,000 miles.

Instructions on how to change out the timing belt...

    http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacgi/da

    http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenanc

Either way, you should never delay changing it out because you have an interference motor, which could cause bent valves, cams and rocker arms when the belt becomes loose or if it snaps.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?Any dealer will do a free inspection, if your dealer has already said he has swapped it out, you can take his word for it or not,

Keep in mind for your car BMW recommends the belt swapped out at 60,000-70,000 so if you have 85,999 miles on your car you can be assured that you have another 30,000 miles left to go.

As evidence, your belt would have broken already from being dry-rotted or your belt would have some serious cracks in it.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?As with all belts, you can check them visually or you can take it to an Auto parts store that offers free inspections of your belts for a better opinionTiming belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw? While timing belts have a recommended life other things can lead to failure. Over heat, oil leaks, coolant leaks can shorten the life. To check the belt you need to look at it. Does it show wear? Cracks or discoloration? Did the dealer tell at what millage the belt was changed, and did they replace the cam and crank seals %26amp; water pump?Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?Cannot. Even tearing out the timing belt cover (which takes about 2 - 3 hours of labor) and belt is visible, there is no way to tell unless your belt is ready to snap. However, if the BMW dealer said the car was serviced, you can trust because all BMW dealer work is required to be logged into a database.

How to change a distributor cap and rotor on a 99 jimmy 4.3?

Is there anything I must do besides take it apart and change it?How to change a distributor cap and rotor on a 99 jimmy 4.3?Mark ALL your spark plug wires!!

Or, transfer one at a time from the old cap to the new cap.

It's a real pain in the %26quot;neck%26quot; to figure out where they go after the get switched around. How to change a distributor cap and rotor on a 99 jimmy 4.3?Easy. Use a Sharpie to mark each spark plug wire's position on the distributor. Then unplug the electrical connector at the base of the distributor and loosen the 2 cap screws. Remove the cap. Now pull off the old rotor. It should come off easily.

Install the new rotor, place the cap into position and install the 2 screws. Put the spark plug wires back in the exact same positions and you're good to go.

How do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?

I have a 1992 Nissan Sentra XE (four door), and I want to change the stock drum brakes on the rear to disk brakes. I would also like to change the rotors in the front to bigger ones. What all do I need to do? I don't need an exact answer for my car, just the basic steps for converting drum brakes to disk.

Right now its FWD, so it doesn't even have power going back there, but I still want disk brakes. I am planning on doing an engine swap, and making it RWD, but that's a whole other animal. How do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?Your money would be best spent on a car less than 18 years old. That said everything is different from the master Cly to the rear parking brake cables and hydraulic hoses and tubing.. It could get costly quickly. I know only anti lock brake sentra had disks rear the 1994 year model. You could get used parts out of a autorecyclers yard. They don't like being called junk yards. I have never seen a rear wheel drive sentra conversion. If you want a 350Z get one it would be cheaper and performance parts will be available. Good LuckHow do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?I have to totally agree with John Paul...These are some ambitious and potentially expensive mods for that old car. As much as I like Nissan and agree they can run and run you gotta worry if or when the rust will start.... The biggest killer of these cars is not mechanical but body cancer....I would drive it the way it is and save your money...If your heart is set on the rear wheel drive consider a Z car--if you like the Sentra a R or Spec V are what is in your future.

You'll need a set of 1/2 inch drive shallow well metric sockets and a 16%26quot; breaker bar or a 16%26quot; ratchet. The bolts inside the spindle are hardened, usually rusted somewhat and they have *Blue loctite in the bolt threads from the factory. That's why you'll need the extra leverage of a 16%26quot; ratchet or a less expensive braker bar. Sears and Auto Zone's best sockets work fine for this type of work.

After removing the brake caliper it's necessary to remove the brake caliper bracket before removing the brake rotors. Make sure you check and lubricate the brake slider pins with synthetic brake grease, avalable at any auto parts store. It may be necessary to hammer the inside of the brake rotor outward with a heavy ball pein hammer of a short lightweight maul. Turn the rotor as you hammer it. It's rusted on the end of the drive axles.

**It's important to use an electric drill with a stiff hardware store wire brush mounted on a spindle to clean the inside surface of the rotor which was rusted on the axle flange. Use the same wire brush to clean off the ends of the axles. If you have a shop nearby with a brake lathe the rotors should be re-surfeaced. If new rotors are necessary, find an AC-Delco dealer or your local Chevrolet parts counter. Auto parts stores nowadays sell cheap junk off-shore brake rotors which aren't worth your time and energy installing. autopartswarehouse.com has EBC slotted and dimpled rotors that have been cast in Great Britain which are exceptional parts.

Off-shore (China) cast iron is terrible. It'll rust corrode and warp easily. You'll also notice large pits in the surfaces as the brake pads wear the surfaces.

What ever brake rotors you decide to go with paint a thin coat of *Never Seize on the inside surface that mates to the axles. The rotors will never stick on the ends of the axles again. Select Ceramic brake pads also. Bendix CT.3 @ autopartswarehouse.com or Advanse Auto. AC-Delco are the two brands I'd suggest. How to change rear brake pads and rotor on a Chevy 2004 Trailblazer EXT?1)take off the tire

The plunger in the caliper may be sticking and causing the problem. If you have ever changed disc brakes before, it's pretty self explanatory. The only difference you will find on the back brakes is the rotors are actually drum rotors and there is a drum Integrated into the rotor for the parking brake.

How do you change the distributor cap and rotor on a regular 2001 ford mustang v6?

Im getting overcharged for a tune up so i did the spark plugs and wires myself now i just need to do the distributor cap and rotor. It is a distributorless ignition system.

Try changing the fuel filter and air filter too.How do you change the distributor cap and rotor on a regular 2001 ford mustang v6?Did you replace the plugs with a double platinum or did you do the el cheapo and buy the 99 cent autolite plug? Also do you have a flashing check engine light? If you have a check engine light on please advise what code you are getting. Most folks I know put a standard plug in and thats what causes the problems. If no CEL is flashing on you it is not the wires or coil pack. Spark plugs I recommend are an autolite app-105 or the OE motorcraft AGSF-42FM. You can also go to autozone.com, advanceauto.com or which ever national parts chain you prefer to use and verfy this info. I do not recommend those crazy bosch plug with 4 tips and all that junk. How do you change the distributor cap and rotor on a regular 2001 ford mustang v6?You don't have a distributor on this car - it is a distributor-less ignition system. If your car is jerking when you accelerate uphill, it may not be an ignition system problem. Have the car checked out by a shop.

I have a 1999 F250 SUPER Duty, V10, 4X4 and a brake rotor problem. How thick are the new rotors supposed to B?

When I changed the new rotors I compressed the pads and now the caliper is rubbing the new rotor. Do I have to get the new rotor turned before install? If not then what is the thickness of the rotor supposed to be so I can mic it.I have a 1999 F250 SUPER Duty, V10, 4X4 and a brake rotor problem. How thick are the new rotors supposed to B?1. You always machine new rotors because 90 percent of the time they will be slightly warped........never believe what the box states on it.

    2. The front rotors should be 1.5 inch or 38.1 mm's.

    3. All Ford's will sooner or later need calipers because of the material they use.

    4. The rubbing might be that the calipers are stuck........

Make sure the rotors will work with your car's ABS system if that's a consideration. Also, you need to wash the new rotors in hot soap and water thoroughly to remove the machining oils. The rotors should have a %26quot;non-directional%26quot; swirl finish you can apply yourself. Can anyone give me a walk through on how to change the front rotors on an 03 BMW 525i.?If this is your first time, I would suggest buying a Haynes manual. • How do i know when i need my rotors replaced?

i know i need my front brakepads changed in my 2002 mustang but does that mean that i need to change those rotors too? is there a way that you can tell? my mustang has 90000 miles on it and from what i know i never had the rotors replaced. How do i know when i need my rotors replaced?Rotors are so cheap these days that you might as well replace them, they will give a nice smooth but firm feel in the brake pedal. 90000k IS WAY PAST DUE especially if you live in a city. How do i know when i need my rotors replaced?well the miles says it all, you have gotten the life out of those rotors and if there warped, you can feel it in the pedal or a jerky motion when it stops, you might not be able to resurface them and then its time to changeHow do i know when i need my rotors replaced? If you havn't abused the rotors with worn pads meaning metal to metal and there are no groves on them you could replace only the pads. I believe there is a tollerance for the rotor thickness. do a search on rotor thickness. best of luckHow do i know when i need my rotors replaced? The only reason you would have to change the rotors would be because you let the brake pads wear down to the point of damaging them. I, too, drive a Mustang (albeit a '68) and my rotors are about 12 years old. I just had them checked to be sure, and they're fine. Regular maintenance pays off again.

If you can HEAR your brakes when you use them, then I'd definitely replace all. Best to be safe. How do i know when i need my rotors replaced?First, do they look smooth? No ripples or grooves, just a nice smooth flat surface.

Second, you must measure the thicknesss of the rotor and check that against the specs. for that car. Some times it is cast into the rotor as a discard thicknes. A brake spec. book will also give a %26quot;Machine To%26quot; thickness minimum.

Finally, thickness variation and run out would be another reason. How do i know when i need my rotors replaced?Well if you know you need pads the odds are you need rotors ,with 90,000 on the car.The rotors they put on cars now are what you call throw aways,or what I like too call them as Ginsue'sJunk.Back in the day you could get them turned down but I bet if you go to your local auto parts there probably pretty cheap.30 or 40 bucks a peace.A good indicator is a pulsation in the break peddle meaning there warped. So even if you get them turned down thinner to clean them up they have a tendancy to warp again quicker due to friction. If you can even get them turned down due to grooving, how warped they are,and the allowed spec to turn them to there thinest.I dont even deal with it anymore.Alot of shops dont even mess with it. The older cars back in the day had really meaty rotors, and made of good steel, making it possible to get a turn down on them.I found it better just to change them under this circumstance.Good luck pretty easy job while you have the calipers off.How do i know when i need my rotors replaced? If the rotors cannot be turned they must be replaced. The criterion is determined by measuring the thickness. Too thin and they get too hot. It is also necessary to replace in the case of a crack.

BUT new rotors are always better. Get the prices and compare--deducting the cost of turning which the new ones won't need. You may have a little difficult seperating them from the hubs, but you'll manage. How do i know when i need my rotors replaced? You have to measure them. There are standards for brakes so they don't fade under high stopping speeds. Check the thickness (the throw out standard is stamped on the side of the rotor) and replace accordingly. If you buy new rotors, they would probably last another 90k miles and it would be money well spent.

How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?

I had a car that had them pressured on and needed to have a certain machine to get them off. My current car's rotors just slide off with a little help from a hammer. Do the explorers rotors just slide off too?How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?Front rotors have the integral bearing race and removing the spindle nut is necessary.

Rears are tircky becuase you cannot use your Ebrake when working to remove the rears.....EBrake is located at the circumference of the hub assembly....the so rotor is a disc and a drum.....

Tap the rotor while turning and pulling, it should come off....take this time to check the Ebrake drum surface....if it needs turning, get both the disc surface and the drum surface done at the same time.

You should have rotors turned anytime you installed new pads anyway. It helps them last longer and gives you better braking. How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?I know the front have bearings so youll have to unscrew the nut thats under the tin cap. then it just slides off. the rear is probably the same. If its a 4wd then theirs more to it.How hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?in most cars you are supposed to be able to replace them with little difficulty.

the only ones that i can think off that would be hard to do would be inboard brakes like on H1 humvees and old jagsHow hard would it be to change front/back rotors on 2002 explorer?callipers are more difficult to change than rotors on your ford should take some tapping with a hammer

How hard is it to change your front rotors and brake pads?

I've got a 02 xterra that's needs both and am not a big DIYer but I'd like to beHow hard is it to change your front rotors and brake pads?If you'd like a quick primer, go to your public library and dive into a Chilton or Motors Manual that concerns your specific car. If you get lucky any auto-parts store will have Haynes, or Chilton manuals specific to a number of years of all Nissan Cars. I do not think the manual will be specific to an Extera.

As for tools, a few shallow well half inch drive metric sockets, 12 mm. - 17mm. , a 1/2 drive ratchet wrench, and a large C- clamp or a Jorgensen - carpenters slider C clamp, jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack (safer than a bottle jack) is all you need.

#1. Slightly loosen all the wheels.

#2. get the vehicle up on jack stands

    #3. Remove front wheels.

#4. Remove brake caliper. 2 cap-screws are on the back side of the caliper bracket.

#5. Two cap screws need to be removed to release the caliper bracket from the wheel spindle.

#6. Rotors may need a tap on the back side to break them loose because of rust and corrosion.

#7. Using an old brake pad in front of the piston inside the caliper, position your clamping device behind the brake caliper and screw the clamp which forces the caliper piston back inside the bore.

#8. When replacing the rotors, paint on a small amount of Permatex Never Seize on the entire surface of the rotor where the lug holes meet the hub. The rotors will never stick again. If you plan on keeping your vehicle more than 3 yrs. Do not buy cheap off - shore brake rotors. They are often machined to minimum thickness, the cast iron is of poor quality, they rust and corrode quickly and they warp easily. Go for AC Delco, Wagner or EBC brake rotors. autopartswarehouse. com has Beck Arnley ceramic brake pads which include brake shims. Be careful what you choose for brake pads as most do not include the anti-rattle shims which add to the cost of your job.

#9.If your selection of ceramic pads does not include the shims there's another way to stop brake squeel. Buy a plastic bottle of CRC Brake Quiet at NAPA, Car quest, or Auto Zone. On the steel side of the front pads first, spread a .090 thickness of this high temp silicone covering 100% of the steel side. Let it dry for 20 minutes.

Slide the rotors back on and bolt up the caliper bracket.

Re-assemble the pads inside the caliper or sit them inside the caliper bracket and bolt the caliper in place.

I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?

    nissan altima year 2000

the owner didnt tell me what he did.

i changed the oil, put in new coolant, installed new tires, changed the rotors, and front brakes. then i added some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank

the car has like 183,000 km on it

    anything else i should change?

i havent checked the rear brakes because i dont know how to put on rear brakesI just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?Timing belt even if it %26quot;looks%26quot; to be in great shape. Change it. Check out the car jack by actually lifting the car and use the wheel wrench to take off the nuts. Sometimes they lose these things and just toss in any old jack which does not necessarily fit or work(which does not help you when you actually need it to fix a flat tire) on the side of the road in the rain one night out in the middle of nowhere and you are half drunk and the girl is wanting it in the cab but you are no longer in the mood because %26quot;things are not going your way outside%26quot;.

All the filters. Check your vacuum lines and V belts and rad hoses. and your smelly pine tree air fumigator on the rearview mirror.

Oh, and check to see that the spare tire is actually one that fits onto the car. Nothing like finding you have a 4 bolt hole pattern to fit a Ford and you have a 4 bolt Chev.

Rear brakes are getting to the time they need to be inspected and possibly replaced as they would possibly be pretty thin by now. Do it before metal to metal contact which would ruin the drums. Grab a repair manual from the library to find out how to do them. It is not that hard.

Also have the battery condition inspected(a load test) and the charging system checked.

You might want to eye-ball the exhaust system especially around the muffler where most of the rust occurs to see if it is rusted through.

Also, eyeball the shocks to see if oil is leaking from them. Also you should have looked at the old tires and see how evenly they were wearing. If worn out on the insides or the outsides indicates a wheel alignment is needed as the car does not travel straight down the road. Wearing out in the centre means he had too much air in the tires.

Oh yeah. Do the windshield wipers work(and the washer)? Headlights, high beam %26amp; low beam, brake lights, backup lights, signal lights, horn?

Your engine uses a timing chain instead of a belt but verify this with a Nissan parts dept.

Read the owner's manual font to back and make note of maintenance intervals.

Check the condition and tension of the drive belts.

Air filter? Perhaps check one or two spark plugs? If the look a bit worn it's inexpensive to change them.I just got a car, what should i change besides the oil?break fluids?

How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?

My friend jacked up my car, took off the front passenger wheel to change my rotors. The car slipped off the jack and landed on the rotor. Is there additional damage/stress to any other part to my car? The rotor got damaged but they were already being thrown out anyway. I'm going to get it checked out by the Honda dealer but I want to know what to expect. I drive a 2007 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?More than likely it did not hurt anything, if it did it should be nothing major. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?I doubt there would be any other damage , but get it checked out if you`re at all concerned ...............How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?you may have tweaked some suspension stuff but that is all i can foresee. ball joints, tie rods, etc. but i highly doubt it. but new cars have a lot of electrical stuff going to brakes and suspension. abs sensor being one. the car is a 07 and needs brakes. there is a major issue there. brakes should last longer than that.

but the better question is why in the hell were you working on a car on only a jack. they make these things i am not sure if you have heard of them called jack stands. be thankful you were not under it when it fell. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?Your friend is a moron. That's why they make jack stands. Never support a car on just a jack. Your friend is lucky it didn't land on him and cause a fatal injury.

Now to answer your question: The hub bearing, control arm, spindle, CV axel, ball joint, tie rods, and strut all could have been damaged. This is worst case scenario. If you are lucky, only the that old rotor got damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?Unless the jack whacked the side of the car or something similar happened - landing on the rotor at worst might have bent the dust shield or the air deflector under the front bumper. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off? There isn't any damage done to the rest of the car. Don't bother wasting your time or money at the dealership. Your car has struts to absorb impact and that's what ensured any other parts of your car from being damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?brake rotor tie rod ends steering brackets part of the suspension and lol off the jack y did he put the tire underneath the car in case something stupid like that happens lolol sorry not being professional

hmmm i would say if ur lucky just the rotor if not maybe some steering compents or and tie rod ends or suspension(spring/ strut) depends where it landedHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?as long as nothing is leaking or when u drive on it it dont wobble or anything like that you should be good to go. hope that helpsHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?It is a more common accident than you might think! I have never heard of more than damaged rotor and bent back plate as a result, even when the wheel came off on the road. I doubt it does the bearings any good, but they don't seem to mind.

  • Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?

About a year ago getting my tires changed the mechanic mentioned I need new pads. Sure enough they started to grind soon after. I changed all four front pads. Now less then a year later the grinding is back (was always just on the driver's side). I drive easy, no hard braking or drifting around corners. Is it ok to just change the one rotor? How about the pads? The sales guy also was trying to sell a bunch of extras like cleaner to get the oil off the rotor, replacement grease for the caliper bolts and something else because of the time of year (salt). The rotor box says %26quot;ready to install%26quot;, so do I also really need all that other stuff?

I think your problem is either worn calliper or wheel baring because the problem is only on the 1 side. 3 i can't believe the ****** is trying to nickle and dime you...charge for a smear of grease? and a spray of cleaner PLEASE punch him for me!Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?if it did it the 2nd time then it,s probably the caliper sticking. you can change just 1 side unless the other rotor is thin then you need to change both rotors to get good braking action. also when you buy rotors the factory puts grease or oil on them to keep them from rusting so before installing them wash them down with brake cleaner. Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?clean all oil off the rotors and grease the bolts to make sure the calipers slide back in forth freely if they dont you will eat brake pad up.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor?i would rather change %26quot;both%26quot; rotors at the same time. and if you plan to replace the brake pads, change both too.

the grinding sound that you feel is probably the cause of a warped rotor... this happens when the rotor gets hot when driving then a splash of water hits the rotor or going straight to the car wash after a long drive.

you don't have to buy those brake cleaners or grease.

the rotors are not that expensive anyway and even the brake pads. the expensive one is the %26quot;brake caliper%26quot;... but i don't think that you have a problem with this part.Is it ok to change just one brake rotor? If you're wearing out one side prematurely, there's a reason. You may have a stuck caliper. The caliper must be free to slide side-to-side on the guide pins as the pads wear. If it's sticking, then you'll likely wear out one pad on that side before the others. If the rotor on the other side still has plenty of metal thickness left, then you could just replace one side. BUT you should have the old rotor ground or machined to remove any 'glaze'- that's when the surface gets polished from wear and heat. If you don't remove the glaze the new rotor will grab better than the old one and cause it to pull to one side. You MUST replace ALL the pads at the same time.

You need to clean and lubricate the guide pins (high-quality bearing grease works fine) and the holes where they slide. There's a small rubber seal that keeps out dirt. If the rubber is broken, dirt and water can get in and cause the caliper to stick. Also, you need to use shims behind the pads and pad silencer goop on the shims. Otherwise you'll end up with brakes that squeal.

How to i take an alternator rotor off a motorcycle crankshaft ?

Its a yamaha rs 200 1981, i need to change the rotor but cant get the old one off, It will not come off though. I asked people who say it just pulls off a key, and use leverage to get it off, so i used the end of a hammer but it bent...so did a shovel. So i got my friend who is an engineer to try remove it. First he heat treated it and then used a HUGE big puller on it which started to bend the crank shaft rather then slip off the rotor, Any last thoughts before i cry ? :-/How to i take an alternator rotor off a motorcycle crankshaft ?I'm not familiar with that model.

This is the most popular flywheel puller for that era bike.

    http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/part

When you remove the nut, holding the rotor to the crankshaft, are there internal threads in the recess of the flywheel?

If so - that is the proper tool.

Measure the thread diameter to double check.

    Same design 30mm

A big puller will warp the flywheel, causing it to grab tighter onto the crankshaft.

Same thing when trying to pry it off.How to i take an alternator rotor off a motorcycle crankshaft ?impossible you may need to grind/cut it off

How much would a tune up cost me?

I have a 1991 Acura Integra and I live in new york. What would be the price range for a minor and/or major tune up, if i already had the oil and rotors changed within the last month. I dont know anything about cars and I dont want to look stupid when i pull up to a garage. How much would a tune up cost me?Between 400-600 dollars, what you ahd done isn't involved in a tune up... Major tune up will be $1100How much would a tune up cost me?Tune Up:

    - Replace Spark Plugs (Use regular plugs, platinum plugs, iridium plugs?) Check on autozone or kragen site for pricing.

    - Replace distributor cap and rotor (Use factory parts or aftermarket parts?) Check on honda ,autozone or kragen website for pricing.

    - Replace oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve (extra). Also ask if they use factory parts or aftermarket. (Check websites for pricing)

    - Check all belts, hoses, ignition wire. (Should be included or free)

    - Check suspension, tires. (Should be included or free). Use common sense, some shop will persuade you to replace parts.

Don't feel pushed to do a service. If you do, drive away and find a different service shop.

Good Luck. How much would a tune up cost me?A good vehicle inspection should include a few easy diagnostics as part of the inspection. Cleaning and tightening the battery cables if necessary, testing the battery, charging system, and starter draw, testing coolant strength, inspecting drive belt conditions, lights, block heater, wiper blades, and filling the washer bottle with winter solution are all part of a complete inspection.

Now that the basics are done, we need to add a couple more items. Have the air filter checked, varnish deposits cleaned from the throttle plates, and vacuum and coolant hoses inspected for cracks or chafing. Removing one sparkplug to check condition will give a good indication if they need to be changed. Even one misfiring sparkplug will decrease fuel economy dramatically. Of course, extra labour charges apply if new ones are required.

Using a scan tool to check for engine codes can tell a lot. On OBD II emissions vehicles (1996 and newer vehicles), it can help locate a misfire. The scan tool can also monitor oxygen sensor readings for quick response rates. Oxygen sensors degrade with mileage and there are many high mileage vehicles that could get better fuel economy with a new sensor. A quick look under the vehicle for poor exhaust system parts, oil leaks, and to check tire condition and pressure and the inspection is done.

A vehicle inspection pinpoints what items on your vehicle need service. Instead of spending money on a 'Tune Up', spend it on what the vehicle really needs. Here are a few more items that should be considered as part of routine maintenance.

Many engines use rubber timing belts that need changing at specified intervals. Forget to have it changed and you could be looking at bent engine valves and major repair costs.

Keeping a vehicle maintained is expensive enough without spending money on services not needed. After watching how vehicles and the automotive industry have changed over the years, I am convinced an annual vehicle inspection is the best guide to help owners save money on maintenance.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes & front rotors changed?

How much should it cost on my 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4 cylinder/2.4L) to get the front and back brakes and front rotors changed? Midas said around $750, my mechanic expects around $700, a friend at work said he could do it for $400... Not sure what to do...How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?rots are 50 bucks a peace so that's 100 for both front plus about 50 for brake pads then that's about two hours of labor say 2 hours at 100 that's 200+150=350

Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?

I have a 2000 mercury cougar v6 2.5L. I took it to firestone and they said i need to change the rotors in the front and rear rotors pitted ans roasted, brake fluid flush...those were the notes he wrote .for my car and he said itll cost 862$!!! i was like wo ill see if i ca find it cheaper somewhere else. but cant i order the parts and pay som1 to do it myselfCar Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?Cars are a constant money pit. You're either making payments or paying for repairs. You're 9 years from your car's production date, and if this is the first time you've replaced rotors, you're doing well.

If you don't have the money for rotors, ask if they're warped, or only scored. If they're only scored, you can either have them surfaced, or just slam in some brake pads knowing they'll wear prematurely (you'll get about half the life out of them). When I was a young man, I ran rotors regardless of how scored they were, I had better things to do with my non-union factory worker paycheck.

Having them resurfaced is best, but some rotors are only surface hardened, and the specs are so limited, they almost never can be resurfaced.

If you're going to do it yourself, find out before you take it apart if any special tools are required, or if there's anything peculiar about your particular car that you should know.

I don't currently own a car with disc brakes, and back when I did they were pretty straightforward, but my son in law just spend a small fortune on new calipers because he tried to push the pistons back in the usual way with a C-clamp, but there was a high-tech limiter because of the anti-lock brakes and unless the piston was turned before it was pushed, it damaged the mechanism. So be careful.

As far as changing the brake fluid, it depends on how long you intend to keep the car. Years ago I thought I was the only guy in the world who actually changed brake fluid every presidential election (once every 4 years). Brake fluid absorbs water out of the atmosphere, and over time, the wheel cylinders or calipers will begin to corrode from the inside out. Wheel cylinders leak before they seize, but calipers seize before they leak, which is probably why your mechanic advised you to change it out.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?wow, the rotors for that car are about 60-80 per, for that car, the rest is labor fee.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor? That's sounds about twice the price I think.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor? What was the original problem with your car that caused you to take it to a shop?

Try taking it to a Mercury dealer and see what they think needs fixing, and what they charge, and compare.

I don't trust those tire and brake shops. They tend to be dishonest.

Dealers with factory certification are more trustworthy. Try the Mercury web site to locate a dealer.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?you can buy the rotors for about 60 to 80 bucks pay 5 to 10 to have them re-surface and install your self if you know how .. as far as brake fluid flush that's just a waste .. i've own vehi for about 15 years never did a flush and never had a problem ..Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?Yes,you can do it your self.Get another opinion from another mechanic before you spend any money.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?I agree to not let them to the work that is way too much for a simple brake job. I would find or ask someone you know that is a mechanic and have them help you do the brake job. as for the flush I would only change it if the fluid is dark brown or black. If you do need a flush it only takes about 15-20 minutes to flush the whole system.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?Your local parts store can hook you up with the correct parts. You will need to know if you car has anti-lock brakes, and what engine and trans it has. They can also sell you a repair manual for your specific car, which will help you to fix it yourself. You might also ask some friends or co-workers, if they know how to do it. You might get it done real cheap if a friend can do it. I would not waste money on the flush, unless there is metal shavings visible in the master cylinder.

How often should you change your spark plugs?

I have a '98 Mazda Protege LX 1.5L 4 cylinder with just over 111,000 miles. I was wondering how often you need to change the spark plugs. Also, I heard people say they changed the wires, rotor and cap. Do you need to do that too?How often should you change your spark plugs? The normal rule of thumb is to change the plugs and wires every 100,000 miles. As far as the rotor...if your car has that because most vehicles nowadays are all electronic...I wouldn't replace that until you start having issues with it.How often should you change your spark plugs?Forget about replacing wires, The factory wires should last for the lifetime of the car, unless they have been eaten by squirrels. Power wash your engine for starters. Remove your dist cap and check it INSIDE for the presence of engine oil. Many times, oil under pressure will find it's way here. Wash it out with CRC electronic cleaner. It will remove the oil and evaporate quickly. Replace the cap and rotor at 100,000 miles, using ONLY genuine Mazda (nippondenso) parts. There is a resistor in many dist rotors that go bad with age. Locate, remove and clean your IAC valve (idle air control valve). Use Gum-out spray. Clean the throttle body and plate and PCV valve, too. Run the Gum-out through the engine with car running, warm. Any carbon inside the intake manifold will dislodge and get dispelled. When everything is factory clean, replace the plugs. Use the new Nippondenso Twin Tip plugs ($3 each). Or nippondenso Iridium plugs ($9 each). Engine and sensors should ALL be clean. Plugs are last step. These plugs will give you best power and fuel mileage. Wait and see!!!! If you MUST change the wires, use ONLY factory wires. Never short change the original parts. They were made to last longest and work the best. The plugs I have mentioned will react with modern fuel and burn more cleanly and produce more power. Emissions go down, too. For even better performance, motor flush the engine and use ELF oil (France) made for Mazda (JASO ratings). Change it once yearly. Your engine will LOVE you for it!!!! So will your lifters, rings, and other engine vitals. Good luck!!How often should you change your spark plugs?Read your owners manual. Your car probably needs plugs at 60,000 miles or so, if your car runs on an ignition cap and wires, then yes, replace plugs, INSPECT wires for damage, check your points in the cap for wear (if dull, replace, if they have a sharp edge still, probably ok). If you car has electronic ignition, the plugs probably could go longer. My fathers ford F-250 has electronic ignition, so the plugs need replaced at 100,000 miles... factory stated. How often should you change your spark plugs?you should change it like every 3 1/2 year

How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?

I am trying to change my distributor rotor on my car. In my repair manual it says I should be able to pull it off but I can't. I have also tried twisting and pulling which one repair website suggested to do and it does not seem to be coming off. Are there any tricks that make it easy or should I just leave it to a mechanic? How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla? On that toyota there should be no screw. Just a straight up pull. it`s good you stated not to pry it, not good. but you can to try to grab the end tabs (one has the electrode other just a wing) and rock it while pulling up. no luck? try a pliers or channel lock pliers and still pull straight up while rocking if needed. When/if it comes off there will be a round shaft exposed with one side flat spotted, this is so you can not put it back on in the wrong position. Good luck Girl! How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?there may be a screw in the side of the rotor, if there is unscrew it, if not spray some penetrant such as wd-40 or pb blaster between the rotor and the shaft and then use pliers and pull harder, if you have too, rock it back and forth and crack the plastic on the base of the rotor and slide it off being careful not to damage the distributor itself. make sure you put the new one on pointing the right directionHow do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?Ya, dont use anything to pry it off as it should slide right off. If it doesn't pull off, it may have a screw on the base of the rotor that keeps it on there. I never had to pull them off, they last a while on my 87 and 86 Corolla. I just take fine sandpaper and polish the tip and the tab.How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?Use a vise grip and set it so that it just cracks the rotor where it goes over the shaft. Then pull straight of. Good advise not to try and pry it of as you run the chance of breaking the side of the distributor. How do I switch out the distributor rotor on an 86 toyota corolla?it is probably just got some gunk gluing it on. you want to replace it Right? take a big pry bar and bust it off. you have a new rotor so break off the old one.

Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???

I have a 2000 firebird (v6) warped rear disc brakes. Also, how important is it to bleed the brakes. On my 90's camaro I never bled them and never had a problem. Please help me out.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???no the rotors should come right off. if you don't open up the hydraulic part of the brake system you shouldn't have to bleed them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???Damn!! I should know this answer, I learned it in class today. My guess is since your replacing the pads and rotors you might as well replace the bearings, I think you have to replace the bearings every 30,000 miles.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???normally, I clean them and inspect them .any, I say any ,mark I replace them ,otherwise they are good. re grease them(repack) and install them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???no, no bearing removal is required, but check for lateral movement, and as far a brakes go no bleeding is not required unless you breach the system,Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???once you get the brake calipers off the rotors will come right off, you won't have to remove any bearings. The brake fluid should by all rights be flushed out every couple of years as moisture gets into the brake system and can cause havock with the ABS system.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???basically speaking.. u should not have to replace the bearing on a rear disc brake assembly, it depends on if u have a top hat design or integral design.. if u have top hat then u just pull off the rotor and replace the rotor and put on the caliper and wheel and such.. also.. bleeding your brakes is very important because your brakes absorb water because they are hygroscopic.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???no...you will not need to change wheel bearings....although if you are going to have the rotors off anyway, you may want to. your brakes should not have to be bled after replacing rotors and pads.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???You will have to remove the bearing to get the rotor off.Pack the bearing with grease before you put them back. You shouldnt have to bleed the brakes.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???on gm the bearing is seperate from the disc.just change the pads and rotors, like you would do on the front.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???No. you don't need to replace them. The bearing almost never goes bad and usually last the lifetime of your car. Replace it if you hear noise from it, like it is not lubricated. Bled the brake only if you remove the tube that goes to the wheel and you lost some oil (on the floor). Usually, to replace a brake, do not unscrew the oil pipe. Before you remove the rotor, insert a crew driver between the pads and push the piston inside the caliper. The pads came loose and with enough space to insert a new ones.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???A fire bird is rear wheel drive, so you would have to take apart the rearend and remove the axels to replace the bearings. So, you just need to leave that alone. The brakes are pretty straight forward. Pull off the rotors and slide new ones on. rear calipers usually need to be turned in, not pushed in like front calipers. look at your piston face ( the part that pushes on the pad) You should see 2 to 4 indents on the outer edge. these are engaged by a special tool used to turn them in. I've used channel locks as a last resort. Be careful not to rip the boots. You can probably rent a rear piston pusher at autozone. If you dont open the brake line you will not need to bleed them, but it is a good idea to bleed out the old fluid once in awhile to keep it fresh because it does absorb moisture from the air.

Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?

Ok so i just got a 1998 Ford Escort from my grandma who passed away couple weeks back. So just to be safe i got it checked at Midas. They told me i had 2 get all my brakes pads, my front rotor and my serpentine belt changed. Im not really good with cars so please explain this to me. when they said get ur front rotor changed, what does that mean...both front tires...how many rotors does a car have..... And also does anyone know where i can get all these parts cheap. PLUS I DONT WAN TO SELL THIS CAR SO DONT SUGGEST THAT TO ME. thanksNeed Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help? You'll get a lot of opinions on cars, and mine from years of experience is not to go to the national chain store franchises like Midas, Goodyear, Firestone, and some others in large metropolitan areas. It's much better in my opinion to get to know some local independent shops you can find below that are recommended by your neighbors. The %26quot;gaurantees%26quot; you get at those chain stores and quickie lubes don't mean much. They end up charging you a lot anyways and less qualified mechanics are generally working on your car. The Ford dealer is a good place to get a diagnosis and quote for engine and transmission problems and let the independent shops do your brake, belts and hoses, exhaust, tires, and suspension work. When a car gets titled in your name at the motor vehicle department, it gets a safety check. If that safety check says your car is ok, then Midas is just trying to make money in my opinion rather than only fix what's needed to be fixed. Preventive maintenance like filter and fluid changes are specified in your owner's manual and are the most important thing for you to spend your money on.

http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help? The rotors are the brake rotors, and your car probably has four, one for each wheel/brake.

As the disc brake pads wear they also slowly wear away the rotors and will need to be replaced.

Serpentine belt is what drives your alternator, AC, power steering and stuff like that. That shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15 or so at an autoparts store. Don't know where you live, so it's hard to say where to get the parts cheapest, but most garages don't like you bringing in your own parts.

I have a 1989 v6 2.8 fuel inj that shuts down everytime it reaches normal temp and change gears. It wont start after that until later. Ive changed rotor, pick up coil, dist cap, sparkplugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter. People tell me its the camshaftsensor, map sensor, crankshaft position sensor but my car doesnt have any of these. The only i havent bought new is fuel pump relay. Ive ran out of ideas on how to fix the car. Pls pls can anyone tell what is wrong with my car. ThanksCan anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?A common problem with these is the pickup coil that fires the fuel injectors. Try squirting a small amount of fuel into the intake and see if it starts. Could even be an overheating fuel pump. Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?your vehicle should have an ignition module....these can cause problems when old age and heat takes it's toll .....Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?Its something that is heating up it sounds like. Try this test, after you get it to temp and it shuts off and wont start on you. Pull a spark plug and attach it back to plug wire, lay the spark plug thread onto a piece of metal on vechicle where you can see it. Have someone try to start truck and see if you can eye any spark across it. If no spark, it may be the computer or coil. Something on the ignition circuit.

How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?

92 nissan what all do i have to do.

spark pluggs and spark plug wires--how

    rotor and rotor cap assembly---how

changing out the battery and getting rid of corrosion

    changing my oil--??

    changing tranny fluid??

    changing air filter??

can i replace my own exhaust pipe and my muffler thats busted in half if i had perfect directions or should i leave that one to the pros??

my truck may be crapping out but i want to do a tune up before i know for sure so if there is anything else i need please let me know. tx

it doesn't like to function in low gears. It huffs n puffs and sometimes looses power going uphill. goign 65 on a highway is no problem but goign slow speeds is difficult for it. I know i have a hole in the exhaust and a busted muffler and it does need a tune up but what do u think. Also, what do u do when an auto shop quotes u 595.00 dollars for sparknpluggs, battery change and rotor change. overcharge duah they didnt' find the muffler or the hole in the exhaust either??laws? How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?Whew, you're askin alot aren't you!

Spark plugs http://www.ngk.com that's where to get em (or at least get the specs on the ones you need) I don't know if you have the v-6 or the i-4 the v-6 is a pain in the but to change plugs. But in order to do it, just change one at a time so you don't mix up your wires, you will need a deep 5/8%26quot; spark plug socket and an assortment of extensions if you are doing a v-6. As for plug wires, only change one at a time.

Rotor and Cap, again, change the wires from the old cap to the new one, one at a time, just make sure you put them in the proper holes on the new cap. As for the rotor, you may have to undo a screw to remove it from the shaft, just make sure the new one points the same way your old one did once it's reinstalled.

Changing the battery should be self explanitory, just use a wire brush, or special tool that can be had for a couple of dollars at parts store, for leaning the terminals, and posts. remove old battery, install new.

Changing oil: you may have to remove a skid plate to gain access to the oil filter, and may have to use a big set of pliers to remove the lod filter...

Better yet, you can save yourelf alot of hassle, by just going to an oil change facility, such as jiffy lube.

Trans fluid can be done at a jiffy lube also, in some cases, or any mechanic can do all these things.

Air filter, just open the intake box (a box with a large hose on it going to the throttle body) should be either clipped or screwed closed, just open it up and remove and install then seal the box back up.

Exhaust work, Take it to an Exhaust shop unless you have a torch and welder in your garage, that you know how to use.

Don't forget to replace your fuel filter also.

Sounds also like you may need new catalytic converters, your exhaust shop should be able to tell you if you do.

And when you get an outrageous price, go somewhere else for a different opinion.

Don't forget to have your accessorie drive belts looked at and possible your timing belt. If you don't know when the last time your timing belt was replaced, then you should have it done soon! How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?Invest in a handbook for your car, they can save you so much money in the long run. All this stuff is easy to do, you could do it in an afternoon. However, i'd say parts alone will run $200+ for everything but the exhaust. Exhaust you can definetly replace yourself. How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?it sounds more like you need either an EGR valve or that you have a leak in a vacuum hose. vacuum hose fixes are cheap. EGR valves are just a bit more than a tuneup cost.

You have to pull the cv shaft out of the hub end. The wheel bearing is a press fit. So you have to use a slide hammer to remove the hub from inside the bearing. Then you can unbolt the rotor and replace it. Then reinstall everything. I would suggest you take it to a shop and have it done.

to remove thee nut/srew that holds the rotor. I took everything off and all that is left is that nut/screw but the rotor keeps rotating and that makes it impossible to take it off. Will putting the front of the car on jack stands help as I am changing the front rotors and am working on one side at a time?I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..I dont think jack stands will lock the rotors in place while you try to loosen the rotor's mounting cap screws. Best way is to use an Impact wrench. If you don't have access to an impact wrench, try using a long screwdriver inserted in one of the vent holes in the rim of the rotor. The rotor will rotate until the protruding screwdriver wedges itself against the floor. First, however, be sure you have new cap screws to use when you re-assemble. 2nd. Do not tighten the cap screws more than 1/8 turn once the rotor is properly seated. Use anti-sieze paste on the threads of the cap screws. I do not recommend using a vice clamp on the surface of the soft iron rotors. The rotors can be easily warped, knicked or damaged.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..Maybe you should have loosened them with the calipers on. Someone could hold the brake pedal. Maybe try putting a vice, c-clamp or vice grips on the disc. It's possible that one side has left-hand threads too.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..If you are talking about that single hardened phillips black screw, make sure you get a couple of new ones. I use an impact-hammer wrench to get them off (the kind that actually uses a hammer - not air powered - less chance that it will slip out). They are different metal than the rotor so sometimes they seize up. The head is about the size of a dime, but the screw itself is only about 1/4%26quot; diameter.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..put the caliper and pads back on and use a vice-clamp to hold the rotor still.

and you will need an impact hammer to remove the bolts on the rotor.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..From the BMW service manual:

%26quot;REMOVING, RECONDITIONING AND INSTALLING BRAKE ROTORS

To remove the brake rotors, first remove the caliper and brake pads as described below...Unsing a hex wrench, remove the mounting screw from between two of the wheel bolt holes and pull the rotor off the hub...Use a soft faced mallet to free stuck rotor.

    CAUTION --

    Do not try to remove the rotor without first removing caliper assembly. EXCESSIVE FORCE MAY DAMAGE THE ROTOR OR THE WHEEL BEARING HOUSING.%26quot;

Some knucklehead using an impact wrench and not their brain is why none of my BMWs go to a mechanic. If the rotor is to be discarded, you can use water pump pliers to hold the rotor and use a solvent to loosen the nut. If you do this, make sure to clean the wheel bearing housing immediately afterwards to ensure you don't have to greese and repack.

The front of the car should be up on jack stands and level.

You should have the BMW Service manual in hand or at the very least the Bently book. Either is enourmously helpful - especially in situations like this.I am trying to change the brake rotors on my1992 bmw 325i, how do I stop the rotor from rotating when i want..Everyones answers will work - but since your that far along try placing two lug bolts in their holes and use a pry bar between them or something similar to hold the rotor in position.

or just use a impact wrench.

Replacing rotors on a 2001 Dodge Neon?

For a couple of months, I was hearing a clicking noise in my front tire, as well as a thumping noise when I braked (could also be felt in the brake pedal, but stops the harder I push) Then one day I pulled into a parking lot, going over the curb, heard a loud thunk and pulled into a parking spot, where my car was stuck. I got out to look, and saw that my front pass. side tire was turned in. Took the car to the mechanic, and had to have both tie rod ends replaced. Since then, the thumping has gotten worse. My Dad believes that is sounds like a warped rotor. He had to replace his rotors on his old car (mid 80's Ford Tempo), and is willing to replace mine. My question is, does anybody know how hard it is to change rotors on a Dodge Neon? Is it anything like changing a rotor on an old Ford Tempo? He said it was really easy on that car, so we are hoping it is easy on my car as well.
